Years 1 & 2
Welcome to Key Stage 1

Welcome to Year 1 and 2
I am the Phase Leader of Key Stage 1 and I work as part the Year 1 and 2 team to develop a broad and balanced curriculum and ensure consistency across the phase.
At Malmesbury we have two Year 1 classes (Elm and Willow) and two Year 2 classes (Ash and Oak). Year 1 is an exciting year for the children as they transition into Key Stage 1. They will now play in the front playground, join in with the Daily Mile and attend assemblies in the main hall.
Year 1 and 2 have a range of exciting trips. Year 1 go to Chessington Zoo, Littlehampton beach and also have a toy workshop when they learn all about the history of toys. Year 2 go up to the South Bank for their ‘Walk in London’ as part of their ‘In the City’ topic. They also go to Morden Hall Park and the Sutton Ecology Centre to learn more about their science topics.
Children in Year 1 will take the Phonics Screening Check in June. This involves reading 40 decodable words. More information will follow nearer the time.
Year 2 also complete their end of Key Stage 1 SATs assessments in May. The tests are spread out over the month and are administered in a calm and supportive way allowing the children to showcase their full potential. More information about SATs will follow nearer the time.
More information about the school day, our curriculum and home learning is available by following the links below.
If you need to speak urgently to any of our teachers, a brief message can be given in the morning or at the end of the day. If you need more time, please let the office know and they will be able to make an appointment for you at a suitable time.
Myself and the Key Stage 1 team are very much looking forward to working with you and your child and sharing in their development and success.
