Brings out the best in everyone

What are we learning at home?

After your child settles into Reception, we will give them some learning to do at home. This will usually consist of reading and ‘tricky words’ to learn.  Children don’t need to be able to write these words at the beginning of Reception. Children who learn these words each week make excellent progress in their reading and we cannot stress how important it is to continually go over these words with your child. Your child should read for 10 minutes every day which should be recorded in the home-school diary. Children in Reception will have a phonics book and a library book to share at home.

Your child’s learning will be recorded in their profile book. The class teacher will also consider the next steps to move your child’s learning along. The profile book and next steps will be shared with you during a short meeting which will take place once every half term. We ask that parents work on this next step at home and share any other learning with us through ‘wow’ slips.

Children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 have been shown how to use Busy Things and Bug Club, online cloud-based teaching resources, and the guides below will help you access these from home.
