Governance at Malmesbury

Governors work in partnership with the Headteacher and staff to promote high standards of educational achievement and to drive the strategic direction of the school. The Governing Body is made up of parent, staff, community and local authority representatives. We welcome feedback from parents so if you have any comments, if you wish to know more or if you are interested in becoming a governor in the future, please email the Clerk to the Governors: school@malmesbury.merton.sch.uk.

The Governing Body meets regularly to review the activities of the school and to consult and decide on its future direction. The Governing Body's responsibilities include:

• Ensuring the vision, ethos and strategic direction are clearly defined;
• That the headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school; and
• Overseeing the sound, proper and effective use of the school's financial resources.

In addition to the full Governing Body meetings the Governing Body delegates certain responsibilities and more detailed discussion to its three committees: Resources, Pay and Standards. The responsibilities of each committee are set out in the Terms of Reference which are available below.

Governing Body meetings are usually held in the evening. Governors regularly attend training sessions and seminars to keep up to date with changes in schools and the wider education sector. They also meet with the Head Teacher, other members of staff and pupils to find out how the school is progressing towards its targets.

Acting as a governor enables individuals from the Local Authority, school staff, community and parent body to play an important role in shaping the future of the school. Any future vacancies for governors will be posted online.

Register of Interests

Since 1st September 2015 governing bodies have been under a duty to publish their register of interests on their website. This sets out relevant business interests of governors, details of any other educational establishments they govern, and any relationship between governors and members of school staff including spouses, partners and relatives.
