Archive Year 4
We're launching our new school website on 14th October. The new format will make it easier for parents/carers and visitors to the website to find useful information about the school. Watch this space!
Reminders
In Year 4 we encourage everyone to bring in a school bag every day. In this, children should have a pencil case, reading book, their Reading Journal and their Home School Diary. This allows them to be independent with their learning. We are trying to improve our handwriting and are using handwriting pens to make our writing neater. Handwriting pens can be bought in the office for 40p. In addition to this, they should have a pencil, colouring pencils, a sharpener, rubber and ruler in their pencil case.
Children should also have a named PE kit in school, which should consist of a plain white t-shirt, blue shorts/tracksuit bottoms and plimsolls/trainers. It is possible to purchase PE kit from the school office.
Home Learning
As part of their home learning, children should be reading each day (with an adult or independently) and recording it in their home school diaries.
Once they have finished a chapter or a book, they should complete one of the journal activities which you can find printed on the inside cover of their Reading Diary. Children are welcome to use their Reading Diary as often as they like to reflect on what they have read, make predictions for the next part of the story or express their opinions on what they've read!
Children should also practise their times tables and related division facts each day. The ones they should focus on are those that they need to know to achieve their next Times Table Super Star badge.
It is also good for children to be practising their handwriting each day. They could practise writing and spelling the list of words in the back of their diaries. These are the words that children in year 3 and 4 need to know.
In addition to this children are expected to choose activities from the home learning sheet to do at home. You can choose what you do and when you do it! We would normally expect about 1 activity a week. When you have completed a task, record it in your home school diary and bring it into school to show your teacher and class.
Enjoy!
Copies of the home learning sheets can be in the Home Learning section of the website.
