We're launching our new school website on 14th October. The new format will make it easier for parents/carers and visitors to the website to find useful information about the school. Watch this space!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new and exciting school year!

The children in both Reception classes are settling well. It has been a big change for many children coming from Nursery who are now spending a whole day in Reception but the children are doing fantastically! We have some children who are new to the school who are doing very well and already making lots of new friends.

Some information which may be useful to you:

Times: At the beginning of the day Reception doors open at 8.45am and close at 8.55am. At the end of the day children can be collected between 3.00pm and 3.15pm - please ensure that your child arrives to school on time so that they don't miss out on important learning.

PE: Reception have PE on a Tuesday. Children do not need a PE kit until the Spring Term. We will remind you closer to the time.

Library books: Friday is our library day and soon children will choose a book from the school library to take home. Please ensure that your child's book is returned in their book bag each Friday so they can choose a new one.

Contact: If you need to speak urgently to any of the Reception teachers, a brief message can be given in the morning or at the end of the day. If you need more time, please let the office know and make an appointment.

Curriculum Information for Parents/Carers

Junk Modelling Easter Challenge

Over the Easter break children were challenged to make a monster out of junk modelling. Well done to everyone who had a go! We have had some very imaginative creations and are very impressed with the fantastic effort that everyone went to. Take a look below!

Bean Plants

We have been learning about what plants need in order to grow. Children planted beans, making sure that they had enough water, light and air. Once our bean plants started to grow children planted them in our garden area outside. We're hoping for very tall beanstalks very soon!

Abstract Art - Kandinsky

We have been learning about colour-mixing, and have looked at some paintings by the Russian artist Kandinsky. Children used what they had learnt about colour-mixing to create their own versions of his famous 'Circles' painting.

Science Day

Children had a lot of fun on Wednesday, doing lots of experiments for Science Day. We used yeast, sugar and water to blow up balloons and learn about gas. We learned about sugar and food colouring dissolving in water in our skittles experiment. We also have been looking at the effects of Coca-Cola on a chicken bone, and thinking about how sugary drinks affect our teeth. Children explored mixing oil and water, and we also did a very fun mentos and diet coke experiment!

Healthy Living

We have been learning about ways in which we can keep our bodies healthy. We have been doing fruit and vegetable tasting, and have tried lots of new foods! We have also been thinking about ways that we can keep our bodies healthy and strong through exercise. We also looked at why some foods are unhealthy, and talked about how we can have these sometimes as a 'special treat.'

Chinese New Year

This week we learned about Chinese New Year and the different ways in which people celebrate around the world. We had lots of fun making Chinese lanterns, having a go at some Chinese writing and numbers. We even learned how to say 'Happy New Year' in Mandarin!

We had some delicious vegetable noodles and had a go at using chopsticks to eat them with.

Reception Climbing Frame

Reception children have been really enjoying our new climbing frame. They have been using it very sensibly and carefully. Children have been climbing along the ropes without touching the floor, using a rope to pull themselves up a ramp, and having fun on the slide! Check out the pictures below!
