SATs are finally upon us! We want to make sure that you are feeling confident and prepared for your upcoming tests. Take a look at some of our Top Tips below!

  • Make sure that you have early nights from now  so that you are not too tired! Perhaps you could read a book before going to sleep.

  • Ensure that you have a big breakfast. Maybe this would be a good week to try/have school dinners! Don't forget our special *Year 6 Breakfast Club* that will run from 8.15am :)

  • Try to organise your pencil case the weekend before SATs. You will need: handwriting pens, pencils, rubber, ruler and a sharpener.

  • Be on time everyday!

  • Bring your PE kit everyday as we may go out in the afternoons!

  • Don't panic. Try to relax, maybe ask your mum to run you a bath to ease your stresses.

HMS Belfast

Year 6 visited HMS Belfast as part of our WWII topic. Despite it being a wet Wednesday, we had a great day! The children were able to explore the ship freely, maneuvering carefully around the engine room and tackling (lots of!) steep ladders. We loved seeing the very life-like mannequins, though some certainly gave us a fright! As we worked our way around the many decks and rooms, we really got a feel for what life was like for the hundreds of people who were once aboard HMS Belfast.

Times Table Superstars

We have a challenge for you...are you ready?

We want EVERY child to have achieved as many new times table badges as they can! Can you get Platinum before you leave?

- When you go to bed in the evening, repeat a times table fact for every step you take towards your bedroom.

- You can download apps on phones/ipads including: 'Hit the Button', 'Times Table Game' and '10 Minutes a Day Times Tables'.

- Practise with a family member or friend.

- Practise your doubles/halves.

Junior Citizenship

On Monday, Year 6 took part in a Junior Citizenship workshop at the Mosque. There were lots of different stands manned by police officers, fire officers and travel experts providing children with information on internet safety, how to travel on public transport and what to do in case of a fire. The children came away feeling very prepared with a set of skills and knowledge they will have for life.

Year 6 visited Narnia! We ventured through the coats and jackets and into the wardrobe before finally ending up in Narnia! There, we were treated to fish and chips in Mr and Mrs Beaver's house and warm toast with juice in Aslan's lair. We listened to extracts from 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' and discussed what lessons could be learnt from them. We all the best afternoon, and were thrilled to be gifted with THE WHOLE SET of 'The Chronicles of Narnia' books for our classrooms. We can't wait to get stuck in! Have a peek at some of our photos for the experience below.

Can you guess which characters we're pretending to be?

Blogging

Year 6 have their own educational blog! Friends and family can visit the page and delve into the learning of both Redwood and Juniper Class. Anyone can read and leave a comment, the more the better! The children are aware of how to keep safe when using the blog at school and at home. If you are visiting the blog for the first time, please take a look at the E-safety and Rules pages at the top of the page. To enter the blog, click here.

Take a look at our pictures from Fairthorne last year. Can you guess the activities? Which ones appeal the most to you?
