Malmesbury Primary School Brings Out The Best In Everyone

Year 6

Year 6 have settled into the new school year very well!

Our topic this term is Evolution and we are reading a number of exciting texts that are new to our teachers as well. Year 6 have loved reading The Savage and have produced some brilliant writing. Next we will be reading 'Skellig' - another captivating text!

In science we are learning about Animals, Including Humans, focussing at the moment on animal adaptations and survival of the fittest. Tricky stuff but we are pretty impressed by how amazing different species are!

In RE we are learning about Faith and the Arts, including different stories of creation. We have enjoyed learning all about Diwali and produced some beautiful Rangoli patterns.

Netball and football skills are being developed in PE lessons with the Malmesbury teams doing incredibly well in the competitions.

Throughout the year, you will see our ICT skills right here as we are in charge of writing the content for each year 6 class page.

We hope you enjoy reading about what we are doing in school!

Fairthorne Deposits...

Please pay all Fairthorne deposits as soon as possible to confirm your child's place on our end of year trip to Fairthorne. The experience is incredibly rewarding and provides the children with excellent opportunities to build on their independence skills before heading off to secondary school.

If you have ANY questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the school office and ask for Miss Clarke.

SATs are finally upon us! We want to make sure that you are feeling confident and prepared for your upcoming tests. Take a look at some of our Top Tips below!

  • Make sure that you have early nights from now  so that you are not too tired! Perhaps you could read a book before going to sleep.

  • Ensure that you have a big breakfast. Maybe this would be a good week to try/have school dinners! Don't forget our special *Year 6 Breakfast Club* that will run from 8.15am :)

  • Try to organise your pencil case the weekend before SATs. You will need: handwriting pens, pencils, rubber, ruler and a sharpener.

  • Be on time everyday!

  • Bring your PE kit everyday as we may go out in the afternoons!

  • Don't panic. Try to relax, maybe ask your mum to run you a bath to ease your stresses.

HMS Belfast

Year 6 visited HMS Belfast as part of our WWII topic. Despite it being a wet Wednesday, we had a great day! The children were able to explore the ship freely, maneuvering carefully around the engine room and tackling (lots of!) steep ladders. We loved seeing the very life-like mannequins, though some certainly gave us a fright! As we worked our way around the many decks and rooms, we really got a feel for what life was like for the hundreds of people who were once aboard HMS Belfast.

Times Table Superstars

We have a challenge for you...are you ready?

We want EVERY child to have achieved as many new times table badges as they can! Can you get Platinum before you leave?

- When you go to bed in the evening, repeat a times table fact for every step you take towards your bedroom.

- You can download apps on phones/ipads including: 'Hit the Button', 'Times Table Game' and '10 Minutes a Day Times Tables'.

- Practise with a family member or friend.

- Practise your doubles/halves.

Who's name is going to appear here first....

Year 6 have their own educational blog! Friends and family can visit the page and delve into the learning of both Redwood and Juniper Class. Anyone can read and leave a comment, the more the better! The children are aware of how to keep safe when using the blog at school and at home. If you are visiting the blog for the first time, please take a look at the E-safety and Rules pages at the top of the page.
